What’s on in Hemel Hempstead in winter 2018

If your job means you’ll have to stay in Hemel Hempstead for a while, you’ll be looking for things to do in the evenings and at weekends. Whilst you could spend time in your serviced apartment watching one of the 400+ channels available to you on Sky+, or a DVD, or just taking advantage of our free WiFi, there are plenty of things to do in Hemel – most within walking distance of the apartment.

We’ve been looking at the What’s On listings for the town for the first few months of the year:

Comedy

The Old Town Hall has booked a number of top-class comedy acts:

Jonathan Pie, 30 & 31 January – if you enjoy political satire and haven’t yet discovered the internet sensation that is Jonathan Pie, look him up!

Lucy Porter, 10 February – if you’re looking for a cause worth fighting for, Lucy Porter’s show should point you in the right direction.

Ellie Taylor, 24 February – this comedian brings her sell-out Edinburgh Festival show to Hemel as part of her UK tour.

John Robins, 9 & 13 March – The Darkness of Robins won the prestigious Edinburgh Comedy Award (formerly known as the Perrier Award), and it’s in Hemel as part of its UK tour.

Theatre

If you want to find out how teenagers think these days, then you may be in luck. The HHTheatreCo Youth is putting on these two one-act plays, Dreamjobs and Chatroom, at the Boxmoor Playhouse between 25 and 27 January.

Other things to do

A trip to the cinema is always a good way of spending a couple of hours in the evening. Cineworld is in the Jarman Square complex which is about a mile up the road. The complex is also home to Planet Ice if you also fancy practising your shotgun spins, toe jumps, camel spins… or just attempting to stay upright.

If falling onto snow appeals more than falling onto ice, you’ll also be in the right area for skiing, snowboarding or après ski at the Snow Centre.

Further afield

If you don’t mind driving further afield, the neighbouring cities of St Albans and Watford can provide a lively night out, whether you want to go out for a meal, have a few drinks, a dance, more? theatre or other entertainment.
