The business case for serviced apartments

The 2016/17 Global Serviced Apartment Industry Report shows that around 65% of businesses are now actively using serviced apartments for business travel, with nearly half using them to house employees whilst they’re working on projects or assignments, and over a third to house staff whilst they relocate for their job.

Business travellers are the main users of serviced apartments and globally, the numbers of apartments available have risen by over 10% in the last 18 months in order to meet the increasing demand.

What is it about serviced apartments that’s drawing people away from hotels?

Those in the know have been using serviced apartments for business for some time now, and many are enthusiastic about the advantages they have over hotels.

• Space – in a serviced apartment, you will have a lot more space than in a hotel; on average, nearly a third more, for the same cost as a hotel room. And with an apartment, you don’t just get a larger room – you get a living room with dining table and kitchen area, as well as a separate bedroom (or bedrooms) as well.
• Home comforts – staying in a serviced apartment gives you a home away from home. You can cook your own meals which means you can make more of your expense account at the same time as being able to follow a healthier diet (if that’s what you want). You will also have access to a washing machine and dryer, Sky TV and WiFi… in other words, just like being at home!
• Freedom and privacy – in a serviced apartment, you’ll have more freedom than in a hotel. You can hold informal meetings around the dining room table whenever you want to – it’s not dependent on whether there’s a hotel meeting room available. You can entertain clients or friends in the evening without disturbing anyone. And if you’ve been working into the early hours one night, you don’t have to decide between a lie-in or breakfast – you can have both!
• Price – a luxury serviced apartment works out around the same price as a mid-range hotel room, with the added bonus of more space and flexibility, along with the cost savings from not having to eat out all the time, not having to get clothes dry cleaned, free WiFi and allocated parking spaces so you don’t have to pay car parking charges.
